Steps To Your Weight Loss Journey

Step 1 : Seminar

The first step to begin your weight loss journey is to attend one of Bariatric Specialists free live seminars with one of our surgeons that will educate you on the various procedures. Please use our online calendar to find a seminar that is convenient for you and sign up. For those patients that are unable to attend one of our live seminars, we offer an online seminar option for your convenience. (Click here to see our scheduled events, and sign up options.)

Once you have attended a live seminar or completed the online seminar, we will verify with your insurance company to make sure you have the benefit for bariatric surgery. This is NOT an approval; it is only confirming that you do have weight loss surgery benefits.

Step 2 : Forms

At Bariatric Specialist of North Carolina we respect your time and your busy schedule. For your convenience you can now fill out new patient forms on our website which will minimize any unnecessary waiting time at your first visit.

You will need to bring the following items with you to your appointment:

  • New patient forms
  • Your insurance card to each appointment.
  • A list of all prescriptions and over-the-counter
medications that you are currently taking.
  • A list of all your physician’s names and phone numbers.

Step 3 : Initial Consultation

At your initial consultation, you will meet with our Bariatric Team to discuss any concerns you may have regarding weight loss surgery and to determine which procedure is right for you. Also, you will meet with our Bariatric Assistant to go over and schedule pre-op testing and qualifying factors needed before you are approved by insurance.

The pre-qualification process does include a series of tests. You will meet with a licensed psychologist, nutritionist and other healthcare professionals that will prepare you for the changes that lie ahead.

Step 4 : Payment

Insurance

Every insurance company has its own criteria needed for bariatric surgery. Our staff will work with your insurance company on your behalf to ensure all the required information is submitted to expedite the approval process. In order for us to submit your information to the insurance company for approval the patient must have the results from your lab work, psychological evaluation, nutrition evaluation and weight history required by your individual insurance company.

We accept Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Aetna, Cigna, Medcost, Medicare, Tricare, Great West PHCS Multiplan. If your insurance company is not listed please contact our office. We do not accept Medicaid.
